An Unauthorized Interview

from Strange Songs for Strange Times by THUNDERCLAP

/

about

A final, fictional interview with a not so fictional subject.

Driven by guttural vocalization and shiny synths, with a vocal style that seems oddly familiar...

lyrics

I see an airplane flaming and falling down, soft from the sky
Silent like everyone inside was focusing on the sound of stalled jets
And the winds howling and hugging the body and stroking its wings

Oh, how I once enjoyed you touching my hair
Much has been said and written; what will they believe?
Hypothetically when the smoke cleared away, and you could pose just one question
What would it be? what would it be?
Well let me tell you this, yes I know what you'll ask; and I'm innocent!

Quality was the foundation of our TCB
My mentors wore sequins and tap shoes
And get this, my homework was dancing and singing the blues
My mother would wake me when James was on TV (…James Brown)
Yeah, me and my brothers were dancing machines

Sometimes I wonder what I'd want that money can't buy
Then I'd ask myself what if I could sing, the last song that you'd hear
When you'd take your last breath, your last breath of air
Would it make you think good things and give you peace of mind?
Of what is worthwhile, in the fog of mankind
In the fog of mankind

I'm a bit like a figment of an overactive mind
Or a little like a magician that dumbfounds and surprises
I'll appear long enough, so as to prove that I exist
Then vanish before you figure out the reason I am missed
You know, a wrong place, a wrong time are real things
I don't just jump through hoops, do parlor tricks, or take requests or rely on shtick
Yet, sometimes I'm compelled to break into song
Or do things with my body that reminds you of a god

Now it's time that I confess this to someone if you'll lend an ear
So I wish I could sleep, but I just can't, and just know
If I can't sleep, it's not fair to my fans
I feel devilish forces are trying to kill me
I hope it's not the Prince or Sir Paul McCartney (just kidding)

It was decades ago when it started turning sideways for me
The great cola war wasn't worth it at all
Because all these years later, it's changed me in ways that I can't believe
The last thing I'll say when looking back at my past; I thank you
And I'll be upstairs signing some last autographs
